When cougars aren’t hunted and pressured they will hunt you
I had a patient who hunted cougars in WY with dogs She told me that each of the drainage systems I’d run up had a cat in it. I would regularly run up these canyons with my dog and I felt safe knowing that the cats in the area we’re pressured and not likely to attack.

On May 18th this year a mountain lion attacked 2 mountain bikers killing one in King County out of Seattle.

In WA there is a season but you can’t use dogs which I think is unfortunate. I don’t hunt but I do a lot of trail running with my 2 dogs.

The pro cougar crowd reminds me of an article I read in SI June 6, 1994 a 40 year old female marathon runner was killed by a mountain lion in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The lion was later shot by wildlife officials. A fund for the cat’s cub had raised $21,000 while a fund for the women’s 2 children had raised only $9,000 (at the time of the printing 6/6/1994.

I’m glad that someone is hunting cats preferably with dogs to keep them pressured and less likely to pounce on me while biking, running, hiking etc
