Hard to get an NBA job, even if you're "on track," at most 10 openings a year.
And, those are often the worst organizations.

And, often more than half of the hires are former NBA head coaches which leaves only a handful of spots for assistants, college coaches, and the occasional Europe coaches to compete for. And, some teams already have their guy waiting in the wings like Nick Nurse, Bickerstaff, or Ryan Saunders.

Add in the fact that the Jazz don't really run a system that most GMs are looking to implement and that gives guys coming up with the Warriors, Spurs, and Rockets an inside track.

Last year only 2 teams hired NBA Assistants outside their organization. One a Spurs Assistants, the other a Sixers Assistant who also spent time with the Warriors.

Jensen faces a tough road if he wants to get a head job in the NBA. Not something he couldn't do, but it's tough and by no means a guarantee. His best bet is Quinn Snyder jumping ship and him taking his job.
