Years ago I was on a road trip and planned on a stop in Ship Rock for lunch

Found a park on the map where we planned on stopping for a picnic. When we pulled up, the "park" was a barren, desolate dirt field with a couple of concrete tables, and a few broken down basketball goals. There wasn't a plant in site. Just some dirt, a hot sun, and a few inebriated locals laying on the ground.

Those are the good parts of the Mojave Desert. You should try 29 Palms, Joshua Tree and Yucca Valley.
