Even in the face of the trend we've seen over the last several years.
I fully admit I have a weak spot, some would even say blind spot for the guy. Maybe in the same way some had for Bronco.
I'm still an ardent Rose supporter. That said, I think it's okay to be a supporter of someone and finally admit, even though I haven't wanted to, that it might be time for a change.
Regardless of whether Rose is back next season or there's a new staff in charge things will likely get worse before they better. If you look ahead to 19-20 the talent level isn't going to improve. The recent signing class was likely the weakest of the Rose tenure. Hansen, Da Silva and Li don't excite anybody. Da Silva and Li are both projects. I don't buy the assertion that Rose doesn't develop talent. The opposite has proven to be true in many instances with many players. In spite of the stats shown the number of 3 or 4 star or Top level recruits that are currently on the roster the talent level isn't what it used to be. It's OBVIOUS watching it on the court. We don't have very many good players. We really don't guys.
With Childs almost certain to be gone after this season, we don't have a single player on the roster over 6'5 that could be counted on to be a Double Figure scorer and consistent rebounder. That's scary.
So if there's a change with the coaching staff, there needs to also be big changes on the roster. Even if the staff stays intact after this season there needs to be a significant change on the roster.
I love Rose. If there's a change so be it. I won't complain. I'll be sad to see the winningest coach in BYU Basketball History go, with the hope that a new coach will be able to re-vitalize a program that is obviously stuck in a recurring and declining spot. But...if that happens prepare yourself for a couple of brutal seasons....worse than this season... while things get turned around, with no promise that it'll actually happen.
