So maybe the coaches have started to figure things out with Gavin on offense
Of course its one thing to draw it up, its another for the players to execute it. TJ seems like the only guy comfortable enough to utilize Gavin right now, but that lob needs to be a core part of the offense. What would really help the offense is Yoeli starting to throw the lob from the opposite block. You can't send a monster double team at a guy if the moment he touches the ball he's looking to throw a lob to the other big. There were two or three times last night where Gavin would've had an easy dunk had Yo just thrown it up around the rim before the double got there. And he needs to look for it the second he catches the ball because that pass becomes a lot tougher once there are two guys on you. Draymond Green made a living on that "tic tac toe" big to big ally oop with JaVale McGee because its not a pass teams are used to defending. And if Yoeli proves he can be that kind of passer and decision maker, his NBA stock is going to skyrocket and he's going to get a lot more space to operate on the block.
BTW, one play from last night that has gone mostly under the rader was how easily Gavin took his man off the dribble. Its one thing for teams to worry about a traditional Stretch 5 who can step out and hit an outside shot. Baxter is the opposite in that he's a natural 3 but without a jumper, so if teams are going to send their bigs out to guard him on the perimeter he's got the handle to take them off the dribble every time.
