The problem with that is that BYU is a program of the church. We are expected
To listen to the tab choir without trashing it even though we like rock music. We understand the role and give support. We look for times like Christmas to give support.

What it really Becomes is weak minded people who don’t want to stand out. Children are not taught to be missionaries and represent the church. This is what you get

A few years back I gave her a BYU hat to a waiter in Cancun that had become a great friend. Within three months he and his family were baptized. The reason they were baptize was the ward mission leader saw his BYU hat and approached him.

That brand and that Mark is one of the greatest nonconfrontational entries into a discussion you’ll ever have. Some members of the church refused to recognize this instead preferring to baptize divorced women and children over families with a strong male lead. These families with a strong male lead are not sitting around listening to church classical music. They’re going to games they’re watching games and they’re doing it as a family.

BYU sports is an entry to a discussion for these families. At some point we’ve got to decide if the guy who sits on the couch with a beer and watches the ball game is as valuable in the eyes of God as the guy who sits around reading novels and listening to classical music
