It probably gets a lower audience score simply because some people don't have a sense of humor.

That's why using a "Liked it or didn't like it" scale is a poor way of judging a movie. You'd be better having everyone rate movies from 0-100. Plus, you should also have folks rate movies after a few years. Some movies age well and are for more rewatchable. Simply ranking movies based on their approval rating from when they came out doesn't tell the whole story.
