You don't want to do the Holy Land with a tour group if you can avoid it.

And especially not with twenty tour groups at the same time.

We went early and late to as many of the sites as we could and outside Jerusalem we didn't run into too many crowds. The best was watching the sunset on the Galilee on the hillside of the Sermon on the Mount and Chorazin after everyone else left. Oh and the private boat ride on the Galilee was pretty incredible as well.

Biblical Jordan (like the place just east of the river where Jesus was baptized, Mt Nebo, Galilee) was awesome too and we were usually the only people at every site any time of day.

For us having young kids was a plus because it got us through doors no one else did. The Greek Orthodox priest in Nablus gave us a special tour of the basilica of Jacob's well while holding our ten month old.
