It seems out there but there are a lot of advantages.
We only have to be in a seminary carpool when we don't have a licensed kid.
Our kids are not asked for a ride from anyone, we commonly give rides to our kids and their friends though.
Dating according to the Strength of Youth is a lot easier as they know that we are serious and dating happens with one of us in the car with another couple or the datee's parents driving. We also allow for them to meet at the location, which doesn't feel like a date as much.
By the time a kid is 18 you can tell if they are a safe driver usually. A ticket is a red flag that your kids recognize as a reasonable restriction. Also it makes your kids not want to get a ticket.
It takes a lot of grit to stay the course, especially when you like a 17 year old responsible person who wants to give your kid a ride or a date, still have to stay true, one exception can lead to many.
