My new friend was going to teach my best friend and I how the big boys bowl. He was the manager of the Hardee's next to BYU and he said he'd give us both a free lunch if our combined total was better than his score.
We hadn't bowled in a couple of years and he was a member of a Provo City bowling league, so his offer seemed fair. The thing I've learned about the sport of bowling is that, on a given day, anyone can knock down ten bowling pins, even if you look like a dweeb doing it.
Turns out, we didn't have to combine our scores. We both were in a zone that day and each one of our scores bested his score. It wasn't a pretty sight either, with so many of his bowling friends watching us bowl strike after strike after strike.
I really felt bad for my friend and I think it's a dumb sport that probably needs to be more challenging. It's like playing pickle ball. Anybody can play it.
