I’m just curious, because I’ve never been in a managerial position where I’ve
had to fire someone, but how do people usually react when you drop the bomb?
Do they desperately try and salvage things, or launch into an expletive-laced rant? Do they usually just stay silent through it?

I hate firing people....especially when they are nice. Ruined both of our days.

I've only had to do it twice. Both were terrible employees but still it's hard.

I've seen all 3 but mostly the silent version. They usually know it's coming,

In my albeit limited experience, they have been extremely quiet.
