I ride a carbon frame Santa Cruz High Ball Hard tail with carbon wheels and high end components. It’s incredibky fast
on long climbs, but 9/10 rides I wait for friends when I get to the top. It is NOT forgiving on technical downhill trails. I’ll probably get another full suspension bike soon, and will probably go carbon again because I’m addicted to light now.
It really just depends on how committed you are to a really light bike. For most people it isn’t critical.
