I think his dad knew a few LDS people too.

They sent his younger brother to BYU as well. Moin (my roommate) gained a testimony and wanted to be baptized, but had to wait awhile due to the severe religious implications of becoming a Christian if he were to return to Pakistan. He eventually was baptized, and his parents immediately moved his younger brother to another school.

I just reconnected with Moin after almost 20 years. He's still active, and currently serving on the High Council.
