BYU will never have elite talent or even UNLV/SDSU/AAC talent but I do believe BYU has (or should have) similar talent to what St Mary's or Utah State has in their programs. Both St Mary's and Utah State improved dramatically this year and I'm not sure I can say the same thing for BYU. I struggle to name a single player at BYU right now that seems to be better now as an upperclassmen than they were as a freshman. Some players have had their roles change and increase (like Yoeli and Haws) but I'm not sure any of them are better.
Your assessment of next year seems discouraging as BYU should have a very experienced and talented group of seniors to lead the team (Haws, Childs, Emery, Seljaas). Once these players leave and without improved development or some crazy blue chip recruits coming in BYU looks to be really bad in '20-21.
I don't mean this as an attack on Rose but more as a sincere question as to where the problems lie and what if anything can be done to fix them. My interactions with Coach Rose have always been positive and I want to see him do well. But I am worried about the direction of the program and wonder if Rose currently has the fire (or the staff) to get things fixed. If Rose is still the right man for the job, when and how do we get things turned around so that BYU can get back to the NCAA tournament?
