BYUtv has always had Studio C as one of its big shows----a show that caters to teens, mostly. But that was really just one show.
Now it seems like BYUtv is now going full bore, and is morphing itself into a competitor to Nickelodeon and Disney Channel. New logo to reflect its branding as a kid's channel. By its own admission, it is basically rebranding itself as a channel that cators to pre-teens. Here is the quote from BYUtv's managing director, Michael Dunn:
“We realize you can’t be all things to all people,” Dunn said, so the channel has “picked a lane”: Kids ages 8 to 15 and their parents, who can share a “co-viewing experience” with shows that are appropriate for kids and yet engaging for adults.
Anyone else find this odd?
(1) Why is a channel affiliated with the University trying to be a competitor to Nickelodeon and the Disney Channel? Why isn't it mostly a BYU-centric channel. I don't think their demographic has much to do with the University.
(2) Why is the church getting into the business of trying to make a Nickelodeon or Disney Channel at all? Kind of weird that BYUtv is funding sitcoms for young teens.
