As for the last years in Trout's contract, you have to attribute those dollars to the first few years of the contract. That's what those dollars are really paying for. If he had just signed an extension covering the first 2-3 seasons he was going to be a free agent he would have gotten $45M-$50M for those seasons, and that's not an exaggeration.
This was a phenomenal deal for the Angels. They absolutely killed it.
