People aren't smart enough to know that the size of the return is irrelevant...
...to the question of tax benefits. As withholdings, deductions, and income change, the principal comparison that matters is your effective federal income tax rate, holding all else constant.
This reminds me of people who complain about how much they pay in taxes and then wind up with significant negative effective tax rates. Umm...how much are you paying again?
