it and not take it seriously and the dean of my college said don't do that. So I took it seriously and did some preparation. But I always wondered what they would have said if i just obviously tanked it on purpose. They claimed there wasn't a minimum score i needed or anything like that. They told me not to worry about it but not to tank it. I wasnt desperate to get into that specific program, it was gravy to me and they knew that...but they wanted me to be in the program so i think taking the test was just a formality. My guess is a wanted athlete would have a similar policy and flexibility. But i can imagine if the program wanted to use a poor GRE score to bar someone they probably have that flexibility as well.
