you would think that there would be a better success rate than that. My feelings on the Star ratings are that they aren't all that accurate for the 2-4 star rated kids. 5 Stars maybe, those are generally kids with such ridiculous abilities that it is easy to see how superior they are to everyone else, and kids getting 1 star or zero stars are also easy to rate because they probably just have limited talent or else are physically inferior. But the entire middle of these ratings is a crap shoot IMO. I saw a lot of HS football this last season and can tell you I watched games where there were 3 star rated kids that made 4 star rated kids look silly while playing against them, and even 2 star kids that clearly were better players than some of the 4 stars they were playing against.

I also saw large discrepancies in the ratings between one site and another site which is a red flag all on its own. Either one site is over-rating a kid for reasons other than how good they actually are or else the other site is underrating a kid for some reason or else didn't even bother to really do the homework needed to give them an honest rating.

I'm not saying ratings are worthless but I firmly believe they don't matter for much more than getting a kid recognition. How they perform has nothing to do with how they were rated. I had multiple college football coaches tell me that they neither look at these ratings or care about them. I don't know if all of them were telling me the truth but I think that they mostly do not care what a site rates a kid.

And that brings up another point, the guys on these sites that make these ratings, most of these guys are not coaches, they are not even really experts on talent, they are wanna be sports journalists, sports nerds, etc. some probably played HS sports but I don't know of a single one that played college sports. Maybe some did but if so they were certainly no one of note, it isn't like Ty Detmer or Steve Young are writing for these sites and doing evaluations for them.

And I'm not trying to malign these guys, I'm just trying to put what these ratings are into perspective.
