So are athletics....
They do call it a “sports program” after all. My son got an athletic scholarship so obviously schools are offering athletics as a program for their schools.

I think the point is a good one, why is sports any less deserving of additional funding than any other activity or pursuit that isn’t really something that gets a person a degree?

College is about becoming educated and you can say that someone who invests time and effort into a sport is gaining an education in work, perseverance, unity, loyalty, obedience, and dozens of other worthwhile things just as being on the ballroom dance team or in the cougarettes, acting in plays and musicals, or anything else that requires so much time and dedication provides.

I can’t see any reason how any of those other things can be presented as better or more deserving of respect and funding than athletics, nor can I see how they can be claimed to be more valuable as an education accomplishment than athletics. We provide these things in our schools so that our kids can have opportunities to participate and learn more than just history or mathematics. Being educated involves a lot of variables and they go far beyond simply the classroom learning. That is why the arts and athletics exist, to help to educate and provide society with well rounded citizens in all manner of pursuits and interests.
