It would be every bit as valuable as a degree in music, art, theater or poetry..
and probably more valuable than the poetry degree.

None of those pursuits have a high level of graduates that go on to do them professionally and actually make livings from them. The best that most of them can hope for is to become a teacher and teach others how to do them which is similar to an athlete going on to become a coach.

Thinking that it is somehow more "academic" to study theater than it is to play football or swim is really pretty ridiculous.
