They started in Brazil but you are referring to media reports
Perpetuated by people with an irrational fear of honeybees or those seeking ratings on a slow news day. Africanized bees are here. A few people have been killed in Arizona and probably other places too

In the 1950’s they brought African bees to Brazil and they escaped. Gradually migrated northward and can live where it doesn’t deep freeze. The hope was to breed out their aggressiveness but keep their honey producing and disease resistant qualities.

European honeybees aren’t aggressive at all but there are a lot of crazies that think so. Africanized bees can definitely attack and kill, and have, but I wouldn’t expect them anytime soon where it freezes. Eventually there will be interbreeding where the Brazilian intent is reached.

The media contributes to many people’s irrational fear of bees.
