The lack of redundancies is the head-scratcher for me. Modern aviation systems
are built on redundant systems, and yet this had a glaring single point of failure. And according to the article, the AOA sensor fails once out of every 1.7 million flight hours, six times higher than the acceptable limit from the FAA for critical flight systems. The system was designed with a single point of failure on a component that has a higher failure rate than is acceptable by the FAA.
