That's true and I'm sure that Delta prefers it that way as they are going to make more money on the transfer fee's than they do for the miles to be donated. In another instance I had someone who was trying to book a flight and didn't have enough miles that I had him just cash out the miles he had into gift certificates and pay me the difference of what I could get in cashing out the same amount of miles for the flight myself. It ended up saving him over 600 doing it that way. It also benefitted him as he got a round trip 1st class flight to Hawaii for basically $85.00 versus the transfer fee of about 250 for the additional miles he would have needed.
