BYU football fandom along with the 1996 season. I was so into both of those years teams that I can almost remember all of the results from each year. I was at the pigskin classic as a young teen when we beat Texas A&M which was my first game I attended and it really got me into that team in 96.

But that 2001 Utah game was so amazing and to be there and be so close and to rush the field and for the team to have been such an exciting team my first year at BYU was great. It all came crashing down vs Hawaii which has to be the most shocking disappointing game I can ever remember and the season ended with a sour taste but still looking back it was a fun season and beating Utah like that was special.

I left on my mission and missed the urban Meyer/Crowton downfall phase and came back in time for some good mendenhall years. The 2005-2008 years were my other years at byu and the had some good games and good teams and I was there for collie 4th and 18. But I still think that 2001 Utah game was the pinnacle for me just with the timing in my life and bring a freshman with no other major worries or pressures in the world. But it’s funny how some games just stand the test of time and for a home BYU game that was one of the best ever. I think the interest is still there for me now, but the magic and the thrill of the high octane offense has been missing since then. Hall and Beck had some good showings and great wins. Beating Oklahoma being another game that obviously stands out. But it was more of a defensive team and not as thrilling as the teams of the 80s and 90s and I think that era ended with that Utah 2001 game because after that it was all downhill for Crowton and Lavell Edwards fingerprints were vanishing. Mendenhall did a great job and kept my interest but yeah there was something different about the old BYU. I miss that magic. Seems like the opposite of magic lately... feels like I can count on them to let me down.
