That 50% was bogus they threw out there to make sure Dany still had an army
left tonight Cersei. It was clear that the overwhelming majority of their forces died at winterfell. The showrunners realized they still needed an army to make their fight with Cersei believable so they magically said 50% survived. The wide camera shots of winterfell show that was complete crap that Weiss and Benioff made up
