Ole Miss fans were very hospitable. But how would you deal with this?
They welcomed us to their pregame tailgates and they complimented our team on the way out of the stadium.

The one bad experience was the very friendly 60-ish white guy at the shuttle stop who was very complimentary of our team but then launched into a racially-offensive diatribe about the changing demographic nature of the area. He said a few things that absolutely stunned us — we didn't respond.

To this day I'm still upset with myself and my brothers that none of us said anything in response to make it clear that we did not share in his racist worldview. Part of it was that we felt like we were guests on that campus and that it wasn't really our place to tell him what he should or shouldn't say. But part of it was also that I wasn't prepared for that (I just don't hear that sort of thing in California) and I wasn't courageous enough to take a stand. I actually think that if this same thing happened to me again, I would now just say something like "Sir, I can't support that last comment — that's not a sentiment I share at all."

Anyone have a better way of responding? I'm not looking to go around telling other people what to do but I do feel responsible for not appearing to support that worldview (both for my own sake and as a fan wearing BYU gear).
