Eyestone isn't just a distance coach...read Ricky Fantoy's mother's comments...
Ricky is a JR who made it into the 110m hurdles final. He was not a premier high school recruit but coaching took a good athlete and got him to the next level.

He and his staff have been masterful at peaking their athletes for the big races. This was true at the NCAAs this week. Only the men's steeple chase and women's high jump athletes underperformed what might have been expected. Many of the others who didn't place in the money finished with personal bests. If the steeple chasers had finished anywhere near their best times going in, and placed 6-9 instead of 9-11, BYU Men's Team would have finished 4th overall. At 21, BYU had the 2nd highest number of athletes at the championship (I believe Utah had 0), but you're pretty sure no big name school would pay to pick him up.

I doubt Eyestone would have trouble developing winning sprinters if he were at UCLA or Virginia (both tied for #18), for instance. Byu's greatest successes are with distance because not many top calibre minority sprinters are interested in BYU for reasons other than coaching. Oh wait, Virginia would never pay big $ for a successful coach from BYU.

Better to limit sweeping comments like yours to sports that you're actually knowledgeable about. If you don't want to do that, then be wrong on the side of praising the team/coach too much, not minimizing them out of ignorance.
