True, but there have been few stars with achilles injuries
The ones that were stars were awfully old in basketball years (Kobe was almost 35 and had been playing in the NBA...mostly deep into the playoffs) since he came into the league when he was 18.
KD has been playing similar minutes since he came into the league (although he did miss essentially a year). But he is 30 and in his prime while Kobe was definitely at the end of that stage of his career.

You don't opt in. Go get a new deal. Playing on a 1 year opt in is too riskly unless he sits out all season
