Star players have more freedom and less loyalty to the teams that drafted them
Players who have chosen LA via free agency or orchestrated trades to get there:
Wilt
Kareem
Shaq
LeBron
Kobe
AD
It’s going to happen more & more as star players feel less obligation of loyalty to the teams that drafted them. It’s a business, and no one adds more brand value than the Lakers.
If LeBron wasn’t wearing purple & gold already then Kawhi would be headed there. And that’s even with Laker management being a complete circus recently.
