JmThms Walk-on
I was waiting for someone to ask before I specified. Didn't want to write it all
otherwise. Too lazy.

Actually posted this last year. I also posted beforehand to solicit potential questions to him.

So it was at a Las Vegas Lights STH/team get-together at the stadium. Freddie stayed in the locker room the whole time instead of going out on the field where all the pizza and music and people were. We all had access to the locker room and that was actually our first "tour" stop, so the opened the back door to the locker room to let us file in. The players were there waiting for us to come in. Freddie was sitting there at the first locker so I immediately talked to him as planned.

Now most of the suggested questions from CB had to be with him being a bust, even if indirectly, like "what is the biggest regret in your career?". But I decided no way was I going to be rude. I wimped out.

I talked to him twice, that initial time and then when later when I went back into the locker room. He had a lot of attention so I couldn't spend too much time on him. And the questions were few and turned to be kinda lame.

Q: What's your favorite food?
A: (laughing and saying he was caught off guard by the question (I think he is asked about his career a lot)) "A Ghanaian rice dish my mother makes."

Q: What has been your favorite club where you've played?
A: "Benfica."

Q: Who was the best player you ever played against?
A: "Without a doubt, Lionel Messi. I actually played against him twice, in U-20 games. The first time he came on at half time. That was the first time I realized that I wasn't the best young player in the world. I mean he was stupid-good."

That Messi answer brought attention from a lot of other people milling about in the locker room. They suddenly gathered around and jumped into the conversation, including these two tall Mexican players who were defenders for the LV Lights. These guys had played in the Mexican Segunda and one was like 6'5". They were intrigued by Adu having played against Messi. None of those players are still with the team.

Freddie was friendly and gracious, and readily signed autographs and talked to people. But he was one of the few players who never left the locker room.

That's all. Didn't want to hog time or insult him.
