Agreed and believe the silent majority of fans feel this way

I have talked to many BYU fans and most really want Kalani to succeed, but at this point in time don't feel like he has proven anything. I like the momentum of the bowl game and like that we have have a confidence that was missing to start last year and actually am seeing recruiting momentum starting to build for the first time since Kalani's first couple of months.  But we are 1-8 against our rivals and barely 50% overall. We still had struggles losing at home in a game where we only scored 6 points and really had games against Boise and Utah that showed coaching inexperience. The game plans in both games were solid so there is credit to be given there to put us in position to win those games.

I do think the vocal minority are so happy not to have an introvert at coach that they want to give Kalani the benefit of the doubt based primarily on a feelings that things are going better.  Kalani is cooler than Bronco so let's extend him.  The media loves Kalani because he's so accomodating so they'd love him to stay. Ty Detmer was to blame for everything. One thing that gets overlooked by these people is the person giving the extension is the person who brought Ty in so you are basically asking Kalani's boss to eat crow publicly if an extension were given right now. Giving a .500 coach an extension at a school that's won 70% of their games over the prior 45 years only makes sense if you are saying Holmoe caused the offensive and culture problems that lead to 2017.

That being said, I am hopeful for 2019 and honestly would be happier to extend Kalani at a higher salary if he were successful this year than extending him now. I think a solid start and season allows Kalani and staff to start keeping some of the higher rated recruits who have been decommitting and going elsewhere to stay and start building the program we all want.
