If youre assessment is that he can consistently create his own shot in the NBA. He cannot shoot off the dribble. If he’s forced to put the ball on the deck more than once, he can’t get into his jump shot, and will either throw up an awkward floater or use his strength to bully his way into the paint.
His trainer actually said that he’s been working on his ‘wiggle’ this offseason, because he struggles to create separation in the half court and resorts to pushing off with his right arm. I’m not sure that’s something you can really learn, especially in 1 offseason.
Also, he can’t shoot with backwards momentum at all. In other words, there is zero step back or quick pull up jumper in his game. He has to have his feet completely set when shooting. His trainer said he’d been working on retooling his shot this summer too, so we will see how that goes.
My concern with him is definitely not work ethic. He’s a really hard worker. I think he’d be best suited playing most of the time off the ball. In HS, he was actually used as an off ball cutter and attacked close outs off of ball movement a lot of the time. That’s his best chance of success in the NBA too.
