I had to work with Scoutmaster that was like this. I think he was flat out
dangerous at times.

He was always out to prove that he was the ultimate outdoorsman. But his mind would race from one thought to the next. Planning activities was nearly impossible with him because he'd get idea after idea and just assume it would all work out without every checking times, availability, etc. before sending out updated schedules to the whole troop.

I think he was more interested in sending selfies to his outdoor buddies showing off where and what he was doing than actually doing what the boys enjoyed.

A great example is he really, really wanted to soak in river spot after a long hike (14 mile, 4000 ft elevation change) and do it before dinner. To accomplish that goal he raced down the mountain and wouldn't let anybody stop for rest, drinks, or apply first aid to cuts, blisters. We ended up having 3 boys go down due to dehydration and all the major issues that go with it. He was unfazed and kept pressing.

I've seen him do this on multiple occasions. I now refuse to go on any outdoor activity where he is in charge.

Yeah, those scoutmasters messed up big time. No denying that. But let's not be critical of ALL scoutmasters. (jdub, Jul 11, 2019 at 12:35pm)
