MOT failed 80s Range Rover classics in the UK. It's ridiculous who pathetically Toyota coats their frames (the vehicle body paint isn't much better). I will make no excuse for that.
Luckily, my 100 series was a California fair-weather rider, but I still have plenty of surface rust to take care of before the winters of Utah flake off and rot my vehicle not unlike a leper in the New Testament.
Hear are shots from the spring perch on my rear axle. I did treat the spring perch as it would be impossible to maintain it with the coils installed. I still have a lot of surface rust on the frame I need to take care of and coat before this winter. I also did the same treatment on the upper a-arms when I installed the bushings and also my torsion bar brackets.
I've never done rust repair on any off-roader. Partially because Land Rover was wise enough to install an "auto-rust proof" system that coats the under carriage with motor oil just be sitting there. :D.
