You can't really break down UT into four seasons.
You need to break into eight, using "early" and "late" as the modifiers. Early Spring is awful. It is an extension of winter with no holidays. Late Spring, though, is great. Here is my ranking, from best to worst:
1. Early Fall. September is the best month of the year.
2. Late Spring. May is nice, but is much more variable than September. But new growth and the first real warmth of the year is really welcome and inviting.
3. Early Summer. Late May and June is nice. You can still get rain and you normally stay in the 80s. Late Spring and Early Summer could be swapped.
4. Early Winter. Thanksgiving and Christmas. Holidays are fun. New snows are fun.
5. Late Fall. Late October and up until Thanksgiving is hit and miss. It could be mild and beautiful college football weather. Or it could be too early snows.
6. Late Summer. Too hot. But easy access to mountains and beautiful late evenings are big mitigating factors.
7. Early Spring. March and early April are fools gold. You may get a tease of Spring, only to be snowed on a few days later.
8. Late Winter. Easily the worst few months of the year. Cold, bad air, no holidays. The "Death March."
