Apparently there is a large group of Yahoo employees who have organized a campaign against BYU's usage of the Y. They claim that this important symbol has deeper psychological and social meaning. They also claim that the "Y"'s usage in a brutal and barbaric sport such as football promotes false and misleading associations between the Yahoo corporation and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Apparently they have already collected 100,000 signatures and are looking to take this to the highest levels possible.
BYU is simply starting a slow transition to the sailor cougar as the full-time logo. They have already contacted the United States Mountain Lion Association (USMLA) and Sailors of America to make sure that the new logo will be accepted and tolerated.
I've been sitting on this info for a while, but it's probably time to let you guys know.
