Thanks for all the info.
Thanks so much for all the great info.

Yes his is similar in that his bone is separating into the joint space. He's had an MRI recently as well. I just mentioned the X-ray because that's how we first found out about it about a year ago. On his most recent visits he's had an x-ray and an MRI. You can definitely tell the progression. His joint is still stable but it's not too far from the bone or the cartilage break off.

We've had two different orthopedic surgeons look at it. One is our good friend who first told us to go to the Pediatric knee specialist. Our friend did fellowships at Harvard and Duke and is Top Notch. He has a son that's the same age that plays on my son's basketball team. He said that you'd have to go either to Atlanta, South Florida or North Carolina to find a comparable pediatric knee guy. And then if it was him he'd have this pediatric guy do it even though he himself is done the surgery dozens of times. He mostly did it on joints that we no longer stable when he was a military surgeon. In that case you have to insert cadaver bone and cartilage and the recovery is a lot longer.

He is supposed to have his knee and mobilize for six weeks after the arthroscopic surgery. After that he is going to start physical therapy to strengthen the muscles that have atrophied and get his range of motion back.
Any idea how long you think it might take for him to recover after the cast comes off?
