Well, for starters it's a pretty solid measure of the relative states of both
programs right now. It's no coincidence that Utah's domination of the rivalry started the year after they entered the PAC-12 and BYU went independent.
BYU is good enough to keep it close every year, but we simply don't have the depth to pull out the wins in close games (see last year's game for an example).
So while BYU has a good chance of winning every year, smart money will always be on the Utes until the Cougars can start beating them more than once in a decade.
