I don’t think the choice is hard...easily the nationalists.
The Republicans’ body count in terms of civilian deaths was orders of magnitude greater than the nationalists. They tortured and killed far beyond what Franco did. Franco was awful..but do you really think Spain would have been better under the Republicans?
