Yeast is everywhere. It's natural and you just let your flour and water sit out.
I admit that my first one failed. I waited a few days and it looked perfect. It started getting all bubbly and I fed it. But by day 7 I think it died and wasn't reacting to anything.
But I don't know if it's really considered difficult. Nothing special about it.
