9 games among only 12 teams means more conference losses per capita
Your top conference teams play each other more often...and someone has to lose, so there are more losses among the top teams.
And, the CCG is often a rematch.
Whereas, the SEC, ACC and B1G (until this year) only have 8 conference games among 14 teams...which usually means fewer conference losses per team for the top teams and less likelihood of a CCG rematch.
