It sounds like they do it so that the NW schools can play in So Cal every year.
And i recognize that playing 9 conf games is bad for overall conf record. I am a fan of the 8 game conf schedule but I also don't think it necessarily hurts the odds of a conf. champion to make the playoff. It is more more point to trip but I don't think it is necessarily what has been the issue in the PAC12 the past couple years.
