Protein shakes are just a cheap, fast, easy way to get protein.
I like having one after I workout.

Intermittent fasting is just a way to help control your calories. Obviously to lose weight you need to keep calories down. However you can do that best is the way you should go. Keep less sugar in the house, don't drink calories, bring lunch to work, learn to turn down free food.
