So their scholarships are all worth the same amount...
by that I mean everyone on the team. But they have options as to how they can receive the money. They can take it all in cash and then pay their own tuition, books, fees, etc plus pay their own housing themselves and buy food themselves, etc. Or they can have the school expenses deducted before they are paid then have the rest deposited in their accounts and pay the other expenses, like rent and food etc themselves.

Or they can live on campus and have all expenses like school costs, housing, food, etc paid for and then just have the remainder deposited in their account. My son is a freshman so he lives in the dorms, eats in the cafeteria, etc so all his stuff is paid previous to him seeing any money then the remainder is deposited into his bank account.

For older players that live off campus and pay for their own rent and food they probably end up with less cash after expenses. But my understanding is that all of them get the stipend ($700 per month) regardless and that is above and beyond the other money they receive for all of their expenses. That is just what they get as cash for whatever purpose they use it for. So in reality if they live the cheapest possible way (live on campus, eat in the cafeteria, etc.) then they would have cash left over after expenses so they would get their stipend (the 4700) plus the left over from the scholarship amount so conceivably they might have $1000 or more each month in actual cash.
