Yep. The top youth clubs are good at creating little robots who “play simple”
meaning take a touch & pass to the next guy. That skill is important, but you’ve gotta allow for the unstructured creativity too.

Pulisic got the best of both worlds. Has athletic parents who knew the game, but they pushed back against the “tournament culture” and even turned down the Philadelphia Union’s youth academy in his younger years. He played a lot of indoor soccer, always had a ball at his feet, and had the broad skill set by the time Dortmund & the USNT came knocking.
