I had the same issue and just replaced mine with the Ecobee 4. Costco had a good
deal on it and it included an extra sensor which we have upstairs. It also has Amazon Alexa built in which my kids like.
I don't think you can go wrong with Nest or Ecobee but the price at Costco was good and I can get the rebates.

You sure it's the thermostat? I thought the battery just saved the memory but didn't usually power the display.
