You sure it's the thermostat? I thought the battery just saved the memory but didn't usually power the display.
Power comes from the furnace controller. Are you sure you're getting power from the controller?

I'd go with Nest, but that's mainly because I already have a Nest Hello.

I had the same issue and just replaced mine with the Ecobee 4. Costco had a good

We have liked our Ecobee. Comes with a separate sensor that helps at our house
