You need 1 yard in the opponent's redzone. You have two rather physical, experienced running backs, as well as a large, extremely mobile backup QB who can run past or through defenders. And you call a toss to your safety who is in the backfield? Between Ty'son, Jaren, and Esukpa, he had three extremely good options for that situation. And he tried to get real cutesy, twice in a row. I know Dayan has the heart of lion and will do just about anything he can for this team, but calling pitch plays to him toss plays to him twice in a row when he had at least 3 players much more suitable for that situation (and a toss in a short-yardage situation like that is not playing to our strengths at all) was really a head-scratcher by Grimes. I'm happy that he changed things up this week, but sometimes he has a tendency to get a bit too cutesy in short-yardage situations, and he did it again today. He's better than that, needs to reign in that tendency and he'll probably set himself up nicely for a head coaching offer eventually if he keeps up his improvement outside of that tendency.
