If there is one thing I learned in working closely with a college coaching staff for several years, is that the ultimate goal is achieving a consistently high performance standard across longer term periods of time as opposed to shorter. People however, tend to typically make snap judgments over short periods of time, as opposed to longer, for example, many after the Utah game calling to fire Sitake or get rid of him after this season, or now, after two solid wins, calling to extend his contract and lock him in longer right now.
I think Kalani and Co deserve plenty of credit when it comes to some of the great wins we've had, including these last two wins this season and ones like Wisconsin last season. Those are great wins, and the coaches and team did a great job to earn them. The jury is still out IMO on this season, if we end up getting crushed by USU, dropping a few to Toledo, USF, or heaven forbid, UMASS or Idaho State, that changes perspective on the season significantly. They've shown some great flashes of performance and capability, but also at times shown some inconsistent and less than stellar performances.
For coaches' job decisions, a longer term, totality of the situation, body of work perspective needs to be evaluated. This season is starting off in a great direction, but a lot of football is still yet to be played and I think we need to see that before making a call on status of the coaches.
